Privacy Policy

Effective date: September 9, 2026 · Version 1.0

Dusk PDF is a local-first PDF reading, annotation, OCR, and export tool. This policy explains how the current version handles information.

1. Information processed by the extension

When you choose to use a feature, Dusk PDF may process the following information on your device:

  • PDF documents you open and their page content.
  • Annotations, highlights, underlines, strikethroughs, notes, drawings, inserted images, and inserted text.
  • Reading position, zoom level, theme, language, and other preferences.
  • Images of regions you deliberately select for OCR and the recognized text.
  • The address of an online PDF you explicitly ask the extension to open.

2. Local processing

PDF rendering, editing, annotation, OCR, and export are performed in your browser. OCR models are packaged with the extension and run on your device. Dusk PDF does not upload document content, annotations, OCR images, recognized text, reading history, or settings to the developer.

3. Local storage

Dusk PDF uses Chrome Storage and IndexedDB to save preferences, recent-document information, reading progress, annotations, and editable document data locally. You can delete this information by clearing the extension's stored data or removing the extension.

4. Online PDF access

When you ask Dusk PDF to open a PDF from a website, the extension requests access to that site only after your action and permission. The PDF request is sent directly from your browser to the website hosting the file. That website may independently process network information, such as your IP address or cookies, under its own privacy policy.

5. Data sharing and sale

Dusk PDF does not sell, rent, share, or transfer your personal information or document content. Exported files are generated on your device, and you decide where they are saved or shared.

6. Chrome permissions

storage
Saves settings, reading progress, annotations, and editable data locally.
contextMenus
Adds the “Open with Dusk PDF” browser context-menu action.
activeTab
Identifies a PDF on the active tab after you invoke the extension.
Optional website access
Downloads an online PDF only from a site you explicitly authorize. No website access is granted by default.

7. Analytics, advertising, and tracking

Dusk PDF contains no advertising SDK, analytics SDK, behavioral tracker, or telemetry service.

8. Security

Keeping processing local reduces transmission risk, but no software or device can be guaranteed completely secure. Keep Chrome and your operating system updated, and protect access to your device.

9. Changes to this policy

If Dusk PDF introduces cloud storage, account services, AI services, or any other material change to data handling, this policy and the Chrome Web Store disclosures will be updated before those features are released, and consent will be requested where required.

10. Contact
